  • Xanga Walkabout

Today I took a short Xanga walkabout.

It started with the last person who commented on my site and then I visited a person who commented on their site, and then a person who commented on that site and so on. Back in Xanga's golden age a walkabout would take me all around the globe to meet dozens of people I hadn't met before. Now it just seems to take me in a small circle around to see the few friends who have survived the great fall and were left behind.

The transition of Xanga seems more reminiscent of the fall of the Roman Empire than of the golden upgrade we were promised. I am not certain if Facebook's role is more akin to the Barbarian Invasion or the Battle of Adrianapoli , but in either case, Xanga isn't the center of the blogging universe anymore. I remember when we had epic gladiator like battles between Xangalebrities in our Xangassium and Emperor Dan Theologianicus would host orgies of the flesh.

Ahhh yes. Those were the good old days.

I guess it was just a matter of time before the Tribe of Wordpress crossed over and sacked Xanga, making off with most of our priceless writers and poets. I wonder if a thousand years from now archeologists will unearth the old Xanga and discover it's lost treasures.

  • I sometimes do the walkabout on Xanga, too. It is a disappointing trek since Xanga 2.0. What have they done to this once beloved site *sigh*. peace always

  • Excellent extended metaphor, and alas so true! Carolyn (AKA adamswomanssback) comment could be mine. I think that I am good through the year. I am also on FB as Carolyn Justice, if you are there, too.
    Have a great weekend! :-)

  • A walkabout sounds like a good idea!

  • The concept of time is applied also to xanga, it seems!
    In friendship

  • I hardly get on here anymore, but wanted to stop by and say Hi! I miss you! Hi! :)

  • Sigh! I remember too. Maybe I'll have to do a walk about and visit some new people before the apocalypse.

  • I was just on a Xanga walkabout and was really pleased to land here and find a lot of paths to follow from here.

  • I think Facebook is the Visigoths in this universe.

  • I think our Emperor went mad.

  • SIGH! You have a lot more readers than I have John, and I am just continuing to plug on. If I were to take a walk about in the way you say you do, it will probably take me all of five minutes, if that.
Love and hugs to you friend.

  • I miss the old Xanga, too. But, have found a wonderful group of friends on WordPress! :-) I'm enjoying it there. When my subscription is up here, I won't renew again. Just haven't seen any changes here that show anyone uptop cares about the site.
Ha! When they unearth the old Xanga, they will find out I started a lot of parties here! :-D
    HUGS!!! Happy Whee-kend!!! :-D

  • I still like the idea of the Xanga walkabout; I don't have all day to dedicate to reading new blogs and still, work, tend to chores and family, and get outside for a bit of fresh air, but it is fun to see who is about.

  • It's true...with the rise of social media; increasingly, social media platforms are repeating other patterns.

I guess people keep being people no matter what technology happens along...

While I do miss "Xanga Classic," I don't think it was ever the center of the blogging universe, IMO.

  • A lovely place of warmth and caring has been whittled down and almost lost... I'm glad Someone still remembers what a Xanga Walkabout really is! <3

  • I connected with Barbara on facebook and donkey, too

  • yes, my membership is up on June first so I will on facebook under Jill Carmel Larson.

    I hate to leave everyone.

  • I miss the old Xanga and glad that I have a few friends left. I don't know who to find new people and most on my approved list are gone. Some went to WordPress. I have 3 sites going now, but I still love xanga the best.

  • I miss xanga 1.0. I always loved reading the front page.

  • I miss it too, but it seems like everything changes always! It must be called life. :-)

  • I was saddened when Theologian Dan got arrested for child molesting. Things went downhill from there.

  • I can't even get into the small circle. So frustrating.

  • I really miss the old Xanga too ~ wish I had left before they the new one started up. But I'm still here ~ are you leaving?
