Kibble
In front of the classroom
her hands covered in chalk dust
the freckle faced redhead
scribbles on the blackboard
our secret code for all to seeNo one knows what she really means
when she writes 1 + 1 = 3
no one knows at all
except me...On Sunday we'll get together
go dancing round the church
On Sunday we'll get together
go dancing round the churchOut in the garden
kitty captures
butterflies
Out on the lawn
wasp stings doggy
on the noseThe freckle faced red head cries
"Mama, they all made fun of me"
waiting by her window
waiting for her hero
still the chalk dust covers her hands"But one and one does make three"
Does no one understand her but me?On Sunday we'll
go dancing round the church
and on Sunday we'll
go dancing all around the churchShe parts her lips
and breaths a deep long sigh
fogging up the window
looking for her hero high up in the skySome Sunday we'll go dancing
Some Sunday we'll go dancing
After we get out of churchThe kitty dines on its tender vittles
the doggy on kibble and bits
Sister erases the blackboard
The chalk dust falls from her wristsSundays come and go
we never danced that dance
1 + 1 = 3
Nobody understood that
except me

Are you going to put this to music? it read like it should be a song.
What a wonderful heartwarming poem! Sigh!
You've written so many amazing poems this past month! There are a few you need to set to music!
Kibble-HUGS!!!
So beautifully written.....Heart warming....
that is sweet.
a kid who grewup on the farm would understand that.
Hehe! I love your mathematical verses. This sounds like a song for your wife... Mother's day is coming up and I bet it would be lovely set to music and performed especially for her!
1+1=3 makes sense to me but perhaps that is because I'm a redhead.
This made me think of Little House on the Prairie for some reason. Also, HOW ARE YOU?!
