Youth
You thought you would live forever
You thought tomorrow would never come
You thought you were bullet proof
You thought we would always be friendsThat was a long time ago
before the children needed new shoes
That was nearly a lifetime ago
before you started watching the newsYou thought that you would be an astronaut
You thought that you would never die
You thought that you could be the president
You thought that you could flyThat was ages and ages ago
before they stopped counting the candles
That was eons and eons ago
before you stopped watching cartoons

Brilliant! But john, I still watch cartoons. Tom and Jerry, is among the favorites. Sponge Bob Square Pants, not so much, don't like the high decibel screeching sounds coming from those characters. But my little princes love them.
You really have talent.
you stopped watching cartoons?
That's what the young will always think! And I find it a good thing! Your poem sums it up so beautifully! It brought tears to my eyes!
And where did the time go?!
It seems like I just turned around and went from a kid to now!
HUGS!!!
lol Loved it----so true. Nicely written. I connected with this one.

You thought, has run it's course, and now is wishing you hadn't thought of how you wanted your life to be....
Perfectly written!
Love this poem as it is spot on.
We did think we would never die and that accidents happened to other people... I like this one - the rhythm is excellent! I can once again hear this set to music!!
